Robert Herjavec’s Early Life
On the 14th of September, 1962, Robert Herjavec was born inCroatia. He moved to Canada at the age of 8, and his father used to walk to work to save money on the bus fare. Herjavec grew up under hard conditions and a low budget of money.
Roberter later graduated with a degree in English Literature from the University of Toronto. To make a living and help support his family, he took on a variety of minimum wage jobs; such as delivering newspapers, waiting tables, collection agent, and retail salesman.

Robert Herjavec had his first job as an assistant operating behind the scenes in several production roles related to film making. He worked as one of the assistant directors in many productions such as ‘The Return of Billy Jack’ which was filmed in 1985-86. His film career ended with the position of Field Producer of the ‘XIV Winter Olympic Games’ for Global TV. He later got information about a Job opportunity at a computer startup company called ‘Logquest’ which used to sell IBM mainframe emulation boards. Herjavec was under qualified for the position and managed to secure a job for himself by offering to collaborate for free for the first six months.
In 1990, Herjavec left the company to start his own company which he managed to establish under the name of ‘BRAK Systems’. Soon the company became Canada’s top provider of Internet Security Software. In 2000 the company was brought by ‘AT&T’ for $100 million.
Mr. Herjavec is also a leading television personality in ‘Dragons’ Den’ and ‘Shark Tank’, alongside entrepreneurs such as Daymond John, Barbara Corcoran, Lori Greiner and Mark Cuban. He is the author of two best-selling titles, ‘Driven: How to Succeed in Business and Life’ (2010) and ‘The Will to Win: Leading, Competing, Succeeding’ (2013).
Robert Herjavec has always been passionate about car racing and also loves golf. Herjavec competed in the well known Ferrari Challenge and has competed in the 2010 Miami marathon and the 2011 New York marathon. He is also a certified SCUBA diver and a motorcycle enthusiast.

In 1990, Robert Herjavec married his first wife – Diane Plese. After a 24-year marriage that had taken the couple through Herjavec’s entrepreneurial successes, they separated. Two years later, a divorce was formalized. During their relationship, the couple had three children; two daughters and a son. Although his ex-wife received payments as a result of the divorce, the sum was increased in 2019 when a judge ordered Robert to pay further compensation. In total, Diane Plese received $25 million.
The divorce took a massive toll on Herjavec’s mental state, and he reportedly struggled with suicidal thoughts and depression. During this time, Herjavec became more involved with charity and donated considerable sums to a homeless shelter in Seattle. Eventually, he met his next wife, Kym, through Dancing with the Stars. In 2017, the couple welcomed twins into the world. Robert has a $7.5 million mansion in Toronto.
